For couples seeking a fairytale-like experience, the charming town of Sintra, Portugal, is an absolute must-visit destination. Nestled amidst lush forests and rolling hills, Sintra is adorned with whimsical palaces, romantic gardens, and captivating architecture. My husband and I did one-day trip to Sintra from Lisbon on our honeymoon and it was one of the best days in Portugal we had! We didn’t sleep in Sintra, but if you want to enhance your fairytale honeymoon, there are plenty of accommodation options in this lovely city.
The Palaces rock!
Sintra is home to some of the most captivating palaces in Europe, each with its unique charm and romantic allure. The Pena Palace, perched on a hilltop with its vibrant colors and whimsical design, is undoubtedly the crown jewel of Sintra. It is my personal favorite. As you explore its turrets, terraces, and hidden passages, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a fantasy world. Another must-visit palace is the Quinta da Regaleira, an architectural wonder that exudes mystery and mystique. The palace’s gardens are a labyrinth of hidden tunnels, grottoes, and fountains, making it perfect for an intimate and adventurous stroll with your partner.

Romantic Strolls through Enchanting Gardens
It’s romantic gardens and lush forests further enhance Sintra’s natural beauty! The Monserrate Palace and its surrounding gardens boast a diverse collection of plant species worldwide, creating a colorful and scented wonderland that will transport you and your partner to a world of sensory delight. Plus, if you go in the summer, you will love a short break in the shadows…
Sintra’s Culinary Delights
Indulge your taste buds in the delectable cuisine of Sintra, which boasts a mix of traditional Portuguese dishes and international flavors. If you spend a day or more there, you’ll have to eat anyway, so make the most out of it. For a romantic dining experience, head to Tágide Wine & Tapas Bar, where you can savor delicious tapas with a fine selection of Portuguese wines.
Sunset at Cabo da Roca – The Westernmost Point of Europe
For a truly magical and romantic experience, venture to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe. As the sun sets over the vast Atlantic Ocean, the rugged cliffs and crashing waves create a dramatic and breathtaking backdrop for you and your partner to witness a mesmerizing sunset together.
Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides
For a touch of nostalgia and a fairytale-like experience, ride a horse-drawn carriage through Sintra and its surrounding countryside. As you leisurely clip-clop along the cobbled streets and through the charming alleys, you’ll feel like the protagonists in your love story.
