Well, it all looks good on Instagram but sometimes it is not so easy to find the best Insta-famous hotspots everyone seems to be taking pictures at. I got you covered when it comes to Sibenik – a cute boutique Dalmatian town that is getting more and more popular in the last decade. I listed 5 interesting instagrammable places here (plus an additional one almost in Sibenik). By the way, all of the pictures in this post are already posted on Instagram by me or locals. Enjoy the locations and sure, take some pictures there!

1. Cathedral

Let’s start with the obvious. The Cathedral in Sibenik is hard to miss and provides plenty of good photo opportunities. Climb up the stairs at the square next to the cathedral for the ultimate cool pictures with the symbol of the city. There are three separate staircases at the cathedral square and I suggest you explore all of them. Taking pictures in front of, next to, or around this beautiful cathedral is highly recommendable.

2. The 3 fortresses

Sibenik has not one, not two, but four beautiful medieval fortresses that all look stunning on travel photos. Three of the fortresses are located within the city. St Mihovil is the most popular one which has been open to visitors for many years now. It is in the old town and accessible after some climbing. If you don’t have enough time in Sibenik, you will probably visit just this fortress, so make the most out of it. Barone and St. John fortresses are close to each other and provide beautiful views over the whole city, including St. Mihovil. There is a combined ticket for the three fortresses in the city, as well as separated tickets, of course. Barone fortress even has a playground, so it is great if you are visiting Sibenik with kids.

3. St. Nickolas fortress

St. Nickolas Fortress is a bit different from the other three fortresses – it is at the sea and not on a hill. As of 2023, you can enter it only by boat. Boat trips are offered in the city center four times a day and the tour lasts two hours. This fortress is a bit outside the city, at the entrance of St. Anthony Channel. The boat trip lasts 15 to 20 minutes.

4. St. Anthony Channel trail

St. Anthony Channel is a 15-minute drive from Sibenik and it is the place where St. Nickolas fortress is located. However, you can see the fortress only from outside when you go there and there is currently only the water entrance. I know, pretty silly, but they are working on readjusting another entry (rumor has it). Here you can find many instagrammable spots, but the most popular ones are the wooden bridge at the one end of the pathway, and the views over Sibenik at the other end. You’ll need to walk about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) to get to the point which overlooks the city. Sibenik city sign is in the middle of the pathway and is also a cool place to create memories (and photos).

5. Jadrija Beach

Jadrija is my favorite place in the region and for a good reason – the beaches are awesome, the atmosphere is always nice and the colorful cabins at the beach are just inviting you to take some pictures. Jadrija is considered the beach of Sibenik, but it is located outside the city and is actually a living zone full of villas. You’ll need to drive here (about 20 minutes) or take the boat which leaves from the city center every hour during the summer. The boat runs from June to mid-September. The boat ride is very nice and lasts 20 minutes.

Also, some of the cabins in Jadrija have paintings of birds or fish and are pretty photogenic. These are located close to the cafe area. Just walk around and you’ll find your way! Another cool place to take pictures (and windsurf) is Mali Viganj Windsurfing School next to Olive Garden Camp Resort in Jadrija. Plenty of colors and the beautiful beach behind them… just dreamy.

6. Bonus hotspot: Krka waterfalls

Krka National Park is located just 13 kilometers (8 miles) from Sibenik. Many tourists visit Krka waterfalls on their Dalmatian trips. I highly recommend going to the waterfalls and exploring the different paths at the national park. The beautiful nature will inspire you to take some great shots.

Do you know other great places for taking pictures in Sibenik?
